Although fado was originally a tradition born in the popular context of the nineteenth-century in Lisbon, this musical art also proliferated early in the city of Porto. It arises spontaneously in the context of conviviality and leisure, indoors or outdoors, in the streets and alleys, in taverns and cafes. 

Initially, fado was associated with more disadvantaged social contexts, where the narrative sung was about everyday life, with themes resulting from urban manifestation. It is a form of expression that values the interpretation of the voice, accompanied by the guitar. His poetry also evokes the themes of love, luck and individual destiny, often taking on involvement for social causes. 

The Fado Houses of Porto have contributed greatly to the strengthening of this art, and here it is a tradition to bring together local artists with regional cuisine.
